At the core of our work is the belief that children and young people deserve to receive the outstanding care and support they need to be safe and reach their full potential. Our practice model puts effective relationships with children and families at the heart of all the work we do, recognising the strength and capabilities of families in finding solutions to their family situation, building networks and safety.

The role of Group Manager is dynamic and diverse, requiring a confident, autonomous, highly articulate individual, to drive forward practice and influence stakeholders, partners and colleagues. We are looking for an innovative social work professional with strategic managerial experience who is driven, astute, inspirational, and an effective communicator. As Group Manager you will demonstrate transformative leadership in a challenging and evolving sector by shaping and driving the practice across the county and localities whilst also utilising and developing your skills and knowledge. You will have a good understanding of all the national drivers for change and be able to articulate this from policy into practice for your teams.

We understand the importance of investing in our workforce, and as such you will be well supported to effectively deliver and improve services.  NYC has an extensive CPD programme for CYPS staff and we would invite any applicant to utilise this offer once they are in post. In addition, for 2025 we have post graduate systemic training, further family seeing boot camps and a range of other opportunities for an ambitious leader via both CYPS and the corporate training and learning offer.

You will be responsible for the management of significant financial resources and ensure that the service delivers within nationally defined regulations and standards. In addition, you will have a sound knowledge of all the Ofsted Inspection Frameworks and a good understanding of the diverse needs of children and their families.

There are significant challenges facing Children’s Services nationally. However, North Yorkshire has a record of facing challenge with innovation and creativity and seeks transformational approaches, which maintain and improve services to children and their families. We continue to deliver beyond Local government Reorganisation and continue to work with colleagues and partners as North Yorkshire Council. Strength in relationships and partnerships has always been a key driver and it is more important than ever given the national position.  We continue to work in genuine partnership with all our stakeholders, the most important being the children and their families.

Social Care is undergoing transformation because of the McAlister Review: Stable Homes build on love. NYC is working innovatively to embrace these recommendations and welcomes creative leaders with exceptional social work practice knowledge, ideas and creativity alongside the ability to demonstrate personal resilience and tenacity and deliver on improving outcomes for children, their families and their communities.

As a council we are very much committed to encouraging flexible working for our employees, including using modern technologies to support agile ways of working, alongside office based working. We can offer you a range of employee benefits including a competitive salary, generous leave entitlement, a government pension scheme and access to our ‘Everybody Benefits’ package which includes a variety of retail discounts, alongside our extensive CPD offer.

Company

From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.

The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.

With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep.  This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK.  North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
