Job Details
Cambridgeshire is a great place to work and live, with a diverse population, an urban centre in Cambridge, the historic Isle of Ely, Huntingdon and St Ives as well as more rural landscapes. Though large areas of the county are pretty low-lying, you’ll find the atmosphere at the Council anything but flat.
Our vision is to create a greener, fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire, and we’re already making significant progress towards this objective. If you’re ready to bring your professional experience and skills to a well-managed and high-performing organisation, with a strong and ambitious culture of continuous improvement, we want to hear from you.
Cambridgeshire is a large county, so connectivity and transport are highly visible and important issues for residents and businesses alike. It’s a complex challenge, but we’re working closely with the Mayoral Combined Authority and other partners to improve transport to enable all our communities to access employment, services and leisure activities in a safe and sustainable way. There’s a lot happening in transport in Cambridgeshire at the moment, and this role is right at the heart of both strategy and delivery.
You’ll be the Council’s lead on issues spanning Digital Connectivity, Parking and Traffic Management, Active Travel. Road Safety, and management of our Park and Ride and Guided Busway operations. In addition, we’ll look to you to ensure that highways and transport considerations are integrated into all major developments being delivered across the County.
To succeed, you will need extensive experience at a senior level relating to transport and connectivity. You’ll understand the importance of responsive customer service and will have planned and delivered service improvement programmes, at pace, and major projects within in a complex democratic environment. A track record of leading strategic policy development, with commensurate financial and budgetary skills, is essential. And because you’ll work closely with a number of partner agencies, authorities and stakeholders, you must be highly effective at building and maintaining strong, reciprocal relationships.
