Job Details

We believe this is an unrivalled career opportunity for ambitious and experienced leader at a pivotal point in our history. In April 2023 the eight councils that served North Yorkshire unified to create geographically the largest council and third largest unitary within the country, and earlier this year the new York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was created.

North Yorkshire is unique - internationally valued for its quality of place, but with a scale, heritage and industry that make it integral to the North of England. The county’s landscapes, culture and local businesses already make the region a fantastic place to visit, live, work and do business, and with the new investment and powers unlocked by the Devolution Deal there are even more opportunities for North Yorkshire to achieve more for its residents and business alike.

The post holder will be fundamental in shaping the strategic direction of intermediate care in the health and social care landscape in North Yorkshire, working in partnership with the Integrated Care Board’s, provider collaboratives, social care providers and NHS providers to deliver improved outcomes for adults across North Yorkshire.

The role requires strong budget management, a vision for transformation and the ability to understand the wide diversity of the county alongside delivering personalised care at a very local level.

Fundamentality we are seeking a transformational leader to improve the impact of our avoidance of admission, discharge and reablement services. A whole system and whole place leader with the influence to drive collaboration and improve outcomes enabling people to live longer, healthier, independent lives.

You will be expected to take advantage of the opportunities brought to the council through local government review and have the ability to develop strong relationships with wider partners to drive forward a clear strategic vision for this service area.

Company

From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.

The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.

With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep.  This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK.  North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
