The support you need to make good decisions, for those who may be in crisis.
In Kensington and Chelsea, we look after a diverse population, which includes people living in some of the nation’s most deprived wards. We support people’s independence and wellbeing and work hard to enable them to live in the community with dignity, choice and control. However, when mental health crises occur, our Duty Team of AMHPs are ready to act.
The Role:
You’ll provide both assessment and support for people referred with urgent mental health issues likely to require statutory intervention. Signposting and supporting colleagues to consider least restrictive practices. Promote the independence and rights of vulnerable individuals, addressing safeguarding issues, advocating and empowering people to make choices where they can. No two days are the same and, in our diverse and densely populated borough, you’ll need to be ready for a range of both challenging & rewarding situations with a can do attitude.
Working to keep service users and those around them safe means looking at the bigger picture, whilst considering several courses of actions available, escalating where necessary to optimise the best outcomes. You will work within a small dedicated team, have the autonomy to make decisions on cases as an experienced AMHP with a sound knowledge of the law, whilst working closely with other partner agencies in a collaborative approach, to reach the desired outcome for that individual and their immediate needs.
The team promotes a flexible and collective responsibility to prioritising the workload according to risk, urgency and complexity, with the full support and access to management.
This post requires the permanent AMHP to be on the AMHP rota a minimum of three days per week; the post is frontline in person work, which therefore makes it a requirement to be office based. Working in other Council buildings when not in the AMHP Office or on the AMHP rota may also be required due to the needs of the service and any urgent assessments.

Proactive and focused on finding both practicable and realistic solutions, you’ll bring a wide range of skills and strategies to every situation and be able to apply them flexibly and creatively.
