Barnsley is widely recognised as the place of possibilities where public service partners work exceptionally well together to drive progress for our communities. This joint role exemplifies both the pioneering spirit and practice of our collaborative approach, alongside the strong and stable governance and organisational architecture that successfully underpins it.
In a world where closer integration between health and social care makes sense in theory, but is often hard to achieve in practice, Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire ICB have succeeded in developing a joint role and a wider team which is maximising resources and improving outcomes. Our Health on the High Street Project and Barnsley 2030 Place Vision have set new benchmarks, whilst Our Better Lives adult social care strategy has garnered national acclaim for its impact and user satisfaction. Our proactive health approach leads with preventive measures, advocating early interventions for community health and well-being.
This is an outstanding, and in many ways, unique opportunity to become the Council’s Director of Adult Social Services and the Integrated Care Board’s Place Director for Barnsley. As chair of the Barnsley health and care partnership you will have unusually wide convening powers to drive initiatives that that promote health equity, prevent ill health, and enhance adult social care practices.
We are open minded regarding your professional background and are keen to hear from those with experience from either council or healthcare settings. However, we are uncompromising when it comes to your ability to nurture collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders, including employees, residents, partners, the voluntary sector and political leaders. A commitment to innovation, health equity, and excellence is essential.
