Join our new organisation as Head of Business, Growth and Innovation to help boost the economy and prosperity of a whole region.
Welcome to EMCCA
EMCCA is the UK’s first mayor-led combined county authority. The East Midlands is a great region. But it deserves to be better. Better connected, better funded and better prepared for a future of opportunity, growth, and hope. EMCCA will oversee devolved powers around transport, housing, skills and adult education, economic development, and net zero. We will conceive the strategies and create the connections that will empower local partners, people and businesses – maximizing the impact of billions of pounds of funding. Together, our new EMCCA team can put the East Midlands on the map as a place to live, work and study.
Your role in elevating the East Midlands
You will be a key figure in developing and delivering EMCCA’s renewed economic strategy. The focus is business support, engagement, trade and investment and innovation. This will be a highly an influential role as you will lead on all matters of economic policy from the original, and any future, devolution deals relating to the above themes. There will be close collaboration with our Director of Economy and Head of Investment Strategy to tailor effective economic interventions and investment.
The team you grow and develop will lead on all policy relating to business insight and engagement. We want you to develop, agree and deliver a new model for business support across EMCCA, building on the existing work by LEP and UKSPF-funded programmes (and in anticipation of future policy change on delivery models).
To ensure the region maximises its intelligence, you will have the opportunity to manage our relationships with key partners including major businesses, business representative organisations, and universities. You can grow your impact by identifying new and existing funding mechanisms that enable businesses to better invest in skills, capital, and innovation.
Your profile
A proven track record of delivering functions relating to economic strategy, policy and investment in a combined authority or similar organisation. Experience of policy development and delivery in local and national settings relating to business support, trade, investment, innovation and related matters. Demonstrable ability to conceive and deliver programmes of work at speed and in challenging or complex stakeholder environments. The ability to manage change effectively within a political and sensitive environment. Evidence of navigating complex and high-profile political environments. Evidence of building strong, successful and enduring cross-sector partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders. Knowledge and interest in devolution and/or regional policy. A track record of leading, managing, growing and developing high-performing teams.
