Bristol is a dynamic, energetic and diverse city with international reputation, a rich history and a tapestry of vibrant communities that make it a great place to live, visit and do business. Exciting regeneration schemes are reshaping our city, town centres, neighbourhoods and water front. We are a growing city, attracting inward investment, creating jobs, developing excellent learning and skills opportunities that support residents to be successful, and through improved transport links we are making Bristol more accessible. However, like all cities, we have our challenges, the city’s success doesn’t reach everyone living here. There are long-standing social and economic inequalities, plus the challenge of a growing population and ecological and climate emergencies. We are focusing the resources available to us on creating a city of hope and aspiration that is inclusive, sustainable and healthy, and where everyone can share in the many opportunities available. We are creating a cleaner and greener city, proactively tackling climate change, with the belief that we can create a better and more equitable Bristol.

Our new Chief Executive will not only be a central figure and ambassador for the city, but will be expertly focused on getting the basics right, empowering the corporate leadership team to achieve better outcomes and lead improvements across all service areas. Your authentic approach will enable the council and Members to work collaboratively across political boundaries, recognising that we all want the best for Bristol, and maximising our collective resolve to make a difference and realise the ambitions of our residents. As the Chief Executive of a Core City, you will ensure we are a positive force with our peers, able to influence regionally and nationally, including with government. With a new administration and governance structure, supporting Members in navigating the recently implemented Committee system, you will play a crucial role in ensuring we empower our communities and hold the voice of residents at the heart of decision making.

As an experienced leader, you will not only embrace the diversity and vibrancy of our city, but will celebrate difference, promoting an environment that respects the values, attitudes and beliefs across cultures, and ensures that we respond and design services that respect those differences. We are looking for someone to bring innovation to how we design and deliver services, to rethink how we do things and unlock Bristol’s potential.
