What will be expected from me?

We are looking for a qualified legal professional to manage a group of Senior Legal Officers, Legal Officers and trainee solicitors, providing them with leadership and support to ensure that the Council meets its statutory duties to vulnerable children in the district.

What I might be doing?

  • You will work collaboratively with Children's Services and external legal suppliers engaged from time to time by the Council. 
  • You will supervise and support members of the Childcare Legal Team who have responsibility for care proceedings and other children law matters.
  • You will attend, as necessary meetings with Children’s Services, Council and Cabinet Members and Committees and provide legal advice and carry out the legal work arising You will advise to Corporate Directors, Service Directors and Senior Managers on policy formulation for the Council and policies shared between the Council, its partners and other external bodies.
  • You will take specific responsibility for a wide range of very complex Council-wide legal matters that require creative or innovative solutions.

Essential requirements:

  • Admitted Solicitor possessing a current Practising Certificate, Legal Executive, Barrister or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of law and practice relating to Child Protection and Local Government, and recent developments in that sphere, especially an advanced understanding of the strategic issues facing the Council.
  • Experience of initiating and implementing change in a positive manner, and managing a team undergoing or delivering change.
  • Ability to provide visible and supportive leadership, to motivate and develop high performing people and teams.
