Now you can make twice the difference

We’re not just talking about our pledge to help create a resilient, more sustainable future, we’re also talking about continuity. Our award-winning partnership here in Babergh and Mid Suffolk, generations of residents get to live fulfilled lives in a district that encourages and empowers them to shape the future they want. But we can’t deliver that vision of future unless we have the right people leading the charge.

Let’s talk about impact

As the Councils’ Head of Finance and Deputy Section 151 you have the opportunity to maintain our stable financial position, leading and delivering efficient and effective customer focused financial services and providing robust financial management and advice. Your role will be crucial in our journey to ensuring effective decision making is at the forefront of our services to enhance our finances. Keen to make your mark on two highly regarded Councils? You will be working with the Director of Corporate Resources, leading on the annual and longer term financial plans across the organisation. Your remit will be wide and diverse as you review and develop our financial policies, regulations and systems to deliver a programme of continual improvements.

Passionate about professional development? This role gives you the opportunity to work closely with the finance team, helping them to develop professionally and supporting colleagues to meet their goals and the needs of the Council.  By working together, we are looking to breathing a brighter, clearer and more sustainable future for Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

About Babergh & Mid Suffolk

Located in the heart of Suffolk, the districts of Babergh and Mid Suffolk enjoy incredible landscapes, including two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, coastal scenes and conservation areas. Babergh is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, which includes the Stour and Orwell estuaries, a site of European nature conservation interest, and Dedham Vale and Stour Valley AONB.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are at the forefront of joint working and are a progressive award-winning partnership. Serving over 200,000 residents across our two districts, we are two sovereign councils, each with a strong sense of identity, but with a shared vision of the future. We have integrated our two councils’ workforces and were one of the first districts nationally to move to a joint headquarters, together with our colleagues in Suffolk County Council and our health partners.

If you are a professionally qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACMA, ACCA, ACA) looking for a stimulating, career-enhancing role where you can build upon your track record of successful local government financial management, then look no further. Together, we’ll improve resources, refresh our values and do whatever it takes to deliver a thriving, sustainable future for all. This is your opportunity to create a tomorrow where generations can thrive.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are committed to agile and flexible working practices (subject to business need). We believe that work is something we do and not somewhere we go; we want our staff to feel enabled and empowered to fully embrace these opportunities.
