With ambitious plans to serve the heart of the communities that we work within, there has never been a more exciting time to join Lancashire – are you ready to be part of the journey?

These three roles will be critical in shaping a new Resources Directorate, one that helps to shape an exceptional resources directorate to ensure that the enabling services are the council’s engine room.

Head of Legal - Salary up to £80,468 pay award pending

Reporting to the Director of Law & Governance you’ll be responsible for the council's legal teams including diverse areas of law from commercial, procurement, property, social care, education, employment, litigation, highways, environment, planning and child protection.  Lancashire's in house local authority legal team is one of the largest in the country with over 100 employees divided into four teams, a staffing budget of £6.5m, an external legal fees budget of £8m (excluding major projects) and an income target of £2.5m.  The Head of Legal is a new role here at Lancashire joining our Head of Governance, Head of Democratic Service and Head of Audit to provide additional leadership capacity in the Legal and Governance Service.  This post will enable us to drive forward continual legal service improvement and innovation.  Our vision is to enable the Council to deliver the best services for our residents and businesses through providing safe, efficient and innovative legal and governance services.  The post holder will make a real difference to Lancashire's communities.

The Head of Legal is an exciting role. You’ll work closely with elected members, colleagues and partners to shape and deliver effective governance and legal services, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Coming into a new position you’ll have the opportunity to make your mark by working corporately across the whole organisation as well as shaping the resources directorate to ensure that the enabling services are the council’s engine room.

As the council’s new head of legal you will be specifically tasked with ensuring Lancashire has appropriate and transparent governance while also understanding the changing environment and marketplaces that councils now need to work in.
