Adult Social Care in Kent is proud to serve our County’s diverse communities through our deep commitment to Equality Diversity and Inclusion in all aspects of our work. You will be part of a team who want to make a difference every day through inclusive leadership.

The Role

We are seeking a creative and dynamic Director with experience of working at a senior level in complex social care and health settings and putting people firmly at the heart of what you do.

Alongside the Directors for North West Kent, and Adult & Integrated Commissioning, and other senior colleagues, and reporting to our Corporate Director for Adult Social Care and Health (DASS), you’ll be responsible for leading a large operational service and budget and will play a significant role in improving community resilience and health outcomes.

You will balance your passion for high quality operational delivery with a strategic approach and the ability to drive forward our ambitions to deliver outstanding social care.

Kent County Council

Kent has a population of 1.8million, with distinct geographies and communities that make every day different.

We want to involve people more and more in shaping services, and are committed to creating the best conditions for positive, inclusive and strengths-based social care practice to thrive within a proudly diverse workforce.

Consequently, our five-year ‘Making a difference every day’ strategy for adult social care was co-produced with people that draw on support and carers in Kent.

People told us what’s important to them – to have their voices heard, be treated with respect, feel informed and have more choice and control over their lives.

It’s now up to our leadership team, workforce and partners to make this a reality.

Next Steps

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join us at the forefront of implementing improved ways of working together with the people we support and our key partners, to achieve our shared aims.

In East Kent, tourism is a major industry and the attractions include world famous Canterbury and seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate. The landscape is ideal for cycling, horse riding and walking, there are many footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way. The county thrives on its reputation as the Gateway to Europe and its use as the United Kingdom's principal access to the continent through ports like Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Dartford and Sheerness is increasing rapidly. Major development has taken place on the coast and inland associated with the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One of the largest business parks in Europe is being developed jointly with American developer Rouse (Kent), and is known as Kings Hill. Kent has also traditionally been regarded as the Garden of England, deriving from the quality of its agriculture and in particular the intensive fruit, vegetable and hop production. Traditional Kentish industries like papermaking and cement manufacture are located in North and Mid-Kent, particularly along the banks of the Rivers Thames and Medway. The ease of access to neighbouring London and the lure of a decent house in pleasant surroundings have attracted many new residents from the capital.
