This is an excellent and exciting time to join City of Doncaster Council. An ambitious Mayoral authority with a clear purpose to ensure Doncaster and its people thrive. Well-being of people, places and planet is the mission at the heart of our Team Doncaster Borough Strategy – Doncaster Delivering Together.  We are working more closely than ever with our Team Doncaster partners – public sector organisations, businesses and most importantly our communities to achieve this. Our resident’s voice is central to all our work. We are increasingly working at a hyper local level to tackle heath and wealth inequalities as well as delivering major regeneration and housing developments, working toward net zero, creating new jobs and opportunities for our residents. We recognise the need to constantly evolve as a Council to achieve these ambitions and play a more convening, system leadership role.

Due to retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Director of Public Health to help write the next chapter of the Team Doncaster story.

We are looking for an inspirational director and system leader who has the energy, ideas and ambition to make a sustained difference to the people of Doncaster. As the Director of Public Health you will have the opportunity to make vital differences to the life chances of children and adults in areas that have some significant inequalities. This is an opportunity for you to take a transformational approach to Public Health, through actively engaging, communicating and influencing decision making within the council, across partners and with local residents to help communities increase their ability to support themselves independently.

You will work across our health and social care system to drive help tackle the fundamentals of wellbeing and health through systems leadership and to maximise the opportunities of our recently established Health Determinants Research Unit.

The role sits within our Chief Executive’s Directorate, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The successful candidates will be part of the Council’s Executive leadership Team and will be the principal adviser on all public health matters to elected members, officers and partners.

For this role the ability to manage complexity and relationships across multiple stakeholders will be key. Your relationship building and communication skills along with your Public Health strategic oversight will play a key role in enhancing the health and well being of people in Doncaster.

You’ll be ambitious for ensuring good health and wellbeing outcomes, with energy and passion to achieve.  An experienced senior manager, with a demonstrable track record of delivering improvements and results. This role offers huge scope for impact – the decisions you make, the policies you introduce and the services you deliver will have a lasting impact on the lives of our residents.

We offer an excellent pay and benefits package which includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as a range of health and wellbeing and other benefits. There is potential for a relocation package to be available.
