Are you passionate about creating a more sustainable transport infrastructure? Do you have the determination and commitment to deliver excellent services for our communities? Do you thrive on leading innovative projects that make a positive impact on our environment?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Head of Sustainable Transport, Highways and Climate.

Merton Council is committed to building a vibrant, thriving community that values sustainability, equity and civic pride. We believe in taking bold action to address climate change and create a more resilient future for generations to come.

As the Head of Sustainable Transport, Highways and Climate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our community in line with our council plan. You will have both a proven experience in delivering complex projects and front-line services as well as technical expertise in areas such as strategic transport, highways maintenance, and climate resilience.

You will:

  • Ensure that our highways network is managed effectively, with a focus on sustainability and resilience, while delivering high-quality services that enhance the experience of residents and visitors alike.
  • Support the development and implementation of our Climate Action Plan, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to reduce carbon emissions and enhance our resilience to climate change.
  • Drive innovation in sustainable transport, overseeing the delivery of projects that promote active travel, reduce congestion, and improve air quality.
  • Champion green infrastructure initiatives, including the expansion of cycling and walking networks, and the enhancement of public spaces to create vibrant, liveable communities.
  • Build strong partnerships with community groups, and other stakeholders to foster a sense of civic pride and engagement in our sustainability efforts.

If you're ready to make a difference and lead change in our communities, we want to hear from you.
