Merton Council is seeking an exceptional leader who will embed innovative solutions to frontline operational services and play a key role in shaping the neighbourhood and green space experience in the borough.
You will be pivotal in providing some of the most important service priorities for residents, and the council, delivering a clear vision of clean, sustainable and inclusive services with vibrant public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
You will lead and manage a high-profile portfolio of services including street cleansing, recycling and waste management, highways, strategic transport, highways, passenger transport, and parks and green spaces.
You will ensure the services are best-in-class; that they are a source of civic pride; and play a key part in our vision to create a sustainable borough for the future.
You will ensure the borough’s network of public urban spaces are fit-for-the-future and primed to promote the council’s ambition to be London’s first Borough of Sport; are safe and welcoming for all, and bring benefits to the local environment, economy and community.
Priorities for this role:
- Insource the street cleansing service and award a new waste and recycling collection service by April 2025
- Review the delivery model for parks and green spaces, and passenger transport services
- Support the Executive Director in the delivery of Merton’s ambitious climate agenda.
We actively welcome diversity in our applicants. Whatever your background, you will demonstrate an interest in and commitment to local government. You will have the drive and motivation to deliver innovative, customer-focused services in a collegiate way with our local community, public sector agencies and our commercial partners.
Merton has some of the boldest transformation plans in south London, and you will be joining the team at a time of considerable ambition and momentum, anchored by a set of shared goals: to generate civic pride, to build a sustainable future and to create a Borough of Sport.
