Job Details
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in learning more about North Yorkshire Council and this exciting new role.
We are looking for an inspirational and strategic leader ready to shape and manage the future of regeneration services across North Yorkshire. This new role as Head of Regeneration for the North and Eastern region of North Yorkshire represents a fantastic opportunity to join the Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills leadership team and to lead from the front.
North Yorkshire Council is at a pivotal point in our history. In April 2023 the eight councils that served North Yorkshire unified to create geographically the largest council and third largest unitary within the country. Given that we are at the inception of our new council this role provides an unrivalled career opportunity for an ambitious and experienced leader to work with the Assistant Director Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills and the wider team. We are looking for a strategic leader who will play a key role in the integration of teams across all eight former councils, who will actively support this significant transformation programme and who will inspire colleagues along the way.
The Regeneration Service will play a fundamental role in delivering the new council plans. We are ambitious – we are seeking to support economically sustainable growth across the region, to make sure North Yorkshire is well connected and that it is seen as an attractive place to live, work and visit, and that health inequalities are addressed.
To underpin this, we are at the same time looking to ensure North Yorkshire receives its’ fair share of resources to deliver on these ambitions as part of a devolution deal, so that people and communities can achieve their full potential. This new role is integral to helping us achieve all of this.
Why join us?
North Yorkshire Council has the ambition to be the most local large council in the UK - geographically it is already the largest, and the third largest unitary authority. As Head of Regeneration, you and your services have a significant role to play in ensuring that we realise our ambition of also being the most local. We are looking for a leader who will really get under the skin of the region, someone who is curious to get to know its’ many assets and its’ far reaching communities – and who will understand what is important to them. In this role you will forge key relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the redevelopment and investment is targeted effectively so that it can realise the maximum potential.
We have a £60m Towns Funds capital programmes to deliver with an additional £20m Levelling-Up funding – with the prospect of more funding to come as we tap into the potential of devolution deals, we hope will be afforded to us. By working closely with the new Mayoral Combined Authority due to be established later this year we can seek to harness more funding and maximise the opportunities this will create for the region.
This is a high profile role with excellent career potential. You will provide professional and strategic advice on regeneration and associated disciplines to the Assistant Director, Director, Members and other senior leaders of the council. As a shared corporate leader, you will also play a strategic role on the wider Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills leadership team acting as a proactive leader for change and continuous improvement in line with a shared ‘one team’ vision.
What will you gain in return?
You will be joining one of the largest councils in the country at a unique moment – here is an opportunity not only to progress and enhance your career, but to also gain a huge amount of job satisfaction and create a lasting legacy. The Regeneration Service will play a fundamental role in delivering the new council plans, helping to integrate teams across all eight former councils at the same time as ensuring North Yorkshire receives its fair share of resources to deliver on its’ ambitions, so that people and communities can achieve their full potential. North Yorkshire Council has the ambition to be the most local large council in the UK - geographically it is already the largest, and the third largest unitary authority. As Head of Regeneration (North and East Region of North Yorkshire), spanning Scarborough, Richmond and Northallerton, this is a role which enables you to be right at the forefront of helping the council to achieve all these ambitions.
If you have the experience, passion and ambition to join us and help lead at this pivotal time in our history, then we would like to hear from you. In return you will be welcomed by dedicated and supportive colleagues who appreciate everything North Yorkshire has to offer and who want to do their very best for the region. We are a modern employer, and we operate in a hybrid way which means you will use technology to work from a variety of locations including local area offices, head office and from home, working where it is most effective.
If you are interested in joining our team and are inspired to help lead the next phase of our journey, please review the information on the campaign site and speak with our recruitment partners at The Resourcing Solution.

Company
From the 1st April 2023 the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire merge to form the new Council, serving 611,000 residents.
The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.
Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
With a brand new Council, newly elected members, the prospect of a new combined authority as well as its’ first ever mayor, North Yorkshire is on the cusp of a new dawn. The county already has firm foundations - a strong culture and identity which is rich in heritage; thriving communities where the people and places are resilient and innovative; beautiful scenery with stunning landscapes, quaint villages, market and coastal towns; plus the vibrant cities of York and Leeds just on the doorstep. This amazing county combines the best of the traditional and the modern, and is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the UK. North Yorkshire is a great place to live, work and do business.
