Adult Social Care within Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is on an exciting and fast paced transformation journey. Our recent activity has facilitated the establishment of a dedicated Principal Social Worker, whereby we are now looking for a highly motivated leader to bring to life our ambitions.

You will be a welcome addition to our Senior Leadership Team.

This is a superb opportunity to assume a leadership role where you will be supported to deliver real practice improvements across Adult Social Care.

We are looking for an experienced, registered social worker who can demonstrate leadership, is passionate about the delivery of high-quality social work and strives for continuous professional development in all areas of Adult Social Care delivery.

You won’t just be a registered social worker; you will live and breathe social work values and demonstrate through qualifications and experience that you can effectively carry out the functions of the post.

You will be required to:

- Advise the Director of adult social services (DASS), Deputy DASS and/or wider council colleagues in complex or controversial cases and on developing case or other law relating to social work practice.

- Be a creative problem solver, a strategic thinker, and self-motivated with an ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels. You will represent the department’s social work workforce and will be a single point of contact for Social Work England.

- Drive social care practice, providing challenge where appropriate, and enabling practitioners and managers to reflect and learn within a supportive environment.

- Lead on developing a culture of co-operation and co-production, which respects and nurtures the strengths of adults and unpaid carers and enables them to fulfil their potential. You will demonstrate a commitment to strength based, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive social work practice.

- Support frontline practice and drive service improvement through quality assurance, learning and workforce development, drawing on your experience to ensure social work practice is of the highest quality and leads to the best possible outcomes for local people.

We are a supportive, enthusiastic, and committed team of experienced professionals, and find that we work hard together to get the job done.

Blackburn with Darwen is a place with an ‘anything is possible’ attitude, a deep sense of community pride and powerful partnerships as a force for good.

Should you want to have an informal discussion regarding the role, please do not hesitate to contact Head of Service, Brendan Gray via brendan.gray@blackburn.gov.uk and a convenient time can be arranged.
