Have you got what it takes to finish what has already been started?
Woking, nestled in Surrey and just 30 miles from London, offers a mix of urban convenience and rural charm. It has a bustling town centre which provides a diverse shopping and dining experience to live, work, and play. Cultural hotspots including the New Victoria Theatre and The Lightbox attract arts lovers, while outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the natural beauty of Woking Park and Goldsworth Park. This harmonious blend of modern amenities, cultural richness, and natural beauty makes Woking an exceptionally desirable place to live, work, and explore.
Woking Borough Council is embarking on a pivotal 'turnaround' journey and is seeking a dynamic Deputy Director for Finance. This new role is a cornerstone in increasing our finance team's leadership, capacity and resilience during a time of transformative change.
As Deputy Director for Finance, you will directly lead the Finance Management Team, guiding and upskilling them through significant changes. Your expertise will ensure robust governance and underpin sound financial decision-making. You'll play a vital part in responding to the Government's intervention and the implications of the Section 114 Notice issued in 2023.
Working in partnership with the S151 Officer, you will be at the forefront of the Financial Recovery initiative within the Council's Improvement and Recovery Plan (IRP). Your role is pivotal in maintaining sustainable budget practices, facing complex challenges head-on while ensuring alignment with the Council's strategic objectives and safeguarding future prospects.
As the leader of the Finance Management Team, you will cultivate a culture of excellence and responsibility. Your role involves introducing innovative commercial analysis and benchmarking techniques at the forefront of the industry. You will provide expert commercial insights on significant issues and steer major financial initiatives, setting new standards in fiscal management.
Your responsibilities also include the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current and future legislative and best practice standards. You will be a key strategic influence within the Woking Finance Leadership Team, actively shaping financial strategies and adeptly navigating risks and opportunities.
Join us if you lead with vision and integrity, if you will set new benchmarks in financial excellence, and contribute significantly to the overall wellbeing of our vibrant community. Join us in making a meaningful difference and be a driving force behind Woking's exciting next chapter.
