Small enough to care, large enough to make a difference.
Thurrock is changing, and with change comes huge opportunity. We take a whole council approach to improving the lives of our children and young people, placing them at the heart of all that we do. We are currently graded as good by Ofsted, but aspire to be outstanding, and deliver the very best outcomes that our children and young people deserve.
Reporting to Janet Simon, Assistant Director Children’s Social Care and Early Help, you’ll provide strategic leadership, vision and direction across our Children Looked After Service, ensuring practice and values deliver positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. Like all local authorities, we face a number of challenges, particularly around placements and transitions, and the incoming Head of Service will work closely with the Assistant Director and the wider the children’s leadership team to deliver innovative solutions to truly transform services and improve outcomes. You’ll also work closely with our key partners across education, health and police to influence across the system.
A qualified social worker, you’ll be a collaborative team player with the ability to motivate and empower your teams. You’ll have strong experience around permanency and a proven track record in fostering, adoption, and/or children with disabilities. You’ll also be politically astute and work closely with elected members. We are looking for someone resilient, with excellent leadership skills, and the ability to think creatively to tackle the complex challenges we face as a sector.
This a fantastic opportunity to join a local authority who will truly invest in your development and support you to reach your full potential. There will be opportunities to deputise for the Assistant Director and operate outside your direct sphere of influence. Thurrock is a local authority where you can really get to know your staff and the children we serve - we’re small enough to care but large enough to make a difference.
If you possess the skills and experience we seek and share our passion for improving the lives of our children and young people, we would love to hear from you.
