This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Financial Management Team at Wakefield Council.

 

The Group Finance Manager position is an integral role within our team which leads on delivering timely and effective financial management advice and guidance to a range of services across the Council.

 

We are seeking a qualified accountant (CIPFA or equivalent) with excellent communication skills and a proven track record in respect of leading a team to achieve service objectives.

 

Key aspects of the role will include;

  • provision of professional financial advice on service issues (including policy developments or changes in service delivery) to elected members, Corporate Directors, Heads of Service and Service Managers
  • the preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, and attendance at appropriate meetings
  • the production of both revenue and capital estimates for the service(s) you are responsible for
  • supporting the production of the annual statement of accounts in a timely manner with completion of robust working papers/disclosure notes
  • representing Financial Services at professional and other meetings as required, including locally, regionally and nationally
  • identifying and implementing improvements to the Council’s key financial processes
  • being the financial lead for relevant projects, including the provision of financial modelling/information in support of option appraisals and business case development
