Newport City Council is looking for someone who can continue to deliver against our ambitious climate change programme with the vision of becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030, leading by example for the benefit of the city and its residents.

We need someone who is motivated to make a difference, can demonstrate the ability to integrate quickly, lead others and who has the determination to see projects through to completion.

The post holder will be part of a growing multi-skilled Climate Change team that is responsible for our Organisational Climate Change Plan, Carbon Management Plan and our Local Area Energy Plan for the city.

Main duties of the role

Reporting into the Climate Change Service Manager the successful candidate will lead the carbon reduction team to deliver day-to-day energy management and to be responsible for the development and delivery of our Carbon Management Plan which commits us to achieving net zero carbon by 2030 across our built estate and fleet.

Key to achieving our target is the delivery of a largescale building energy efficiency/energy generation capital works programme; the successful applicant will be responsible for developing and delivering all aspects of the programme with the support of other team members and the Welsh Government Energy Service.

About you

The role would suit and individual who is driven to save carbon and who has previously worked as an energy manager (or in a related discipline). Applicants should have prior experience of delivering a range or schemes, of managing budgets and a small team. Previous experience of local government would be an advantage but is not essential.

Applicants should be qualified to degree level or equivalent and have significant experience in identifying and delivering energy efficiency, renewable energy or building services projects.
