This is an exciting time to join us as our Engineering Design Manager.  In this role you will have responsibility for managing and supporting our in-house engineering design team through using your knowledge and experience in the field of highway and civil engineering to seek the best outcome for the Bradford district. Using your experience of managing and working with private sector partners you will embed a culture of collaboration and secure upskilling of our in-house team to meet the needs of the Service. You will also become an integral member of the Highways Service’s Management Team working with and supporting colleagues from other disciplines in delivery of their programmes.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Provide leadership and management to our engineering design teams. Mentor team members to assist their development as an engineering unit. Monitor and deploy staff resourcing levels to ensure the team has the capacity to meet the demands of its workload. Ensure that project work is delivered on time and in line with the forecast budget and to the correct standards and quality expectations. Promote technical excellence and set the standard to be followed by the team. Provide expertise to ensure the Council meets its legal obligations as a Highway Authority.

 

The successful candidate will hold a degree in civil engineering (or related discipline) as well as having a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior role in a large multi-disciplinary organisation covering:

 

  • Experience in developing major road / rail infrastructure improvements schemes. Experience of managing staff and budgets. Experience in drafting specifications and NEC contract documents. Experience in liaison with and supervision of contractors. Experience of formulating and development of policies. Experience of managing staff
