Help us secure a better approach to collecting Council Tax.

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious remit. With a deeply diverse community to support, we must pre-empt the needs of people from a huge array of financial backgrounds. As such, we put people at the heart of every decision, seeing to it that our services are genuinely meeting local needs, and that they are capable of providing for the future too. None of this work would be possible without a reliable source of income, so it is vital that we are able to successfully recover Council Tax in order to fund these services. At an exciting moment in our development in which we have recruited new staff members to handle enquiries relating to Council Tax, we are now looking for an ambitious Manager to help us achieve even more.

The Role:

Overseeing the work of our busy Council Tax team, you will have around 15 colleagues reporting into you. Leading this newly-formed team which sits within our Assessment Division, you will see to it that we are helping people pay their tax in a manageable way. Managing a high-quality end-to-end service, we will expect you to handle all channels (including phone, e-mail, face-to-face services, postal and cashier), and you will be quick to identify emerging needs so that we can enhance the level of customer care that we are currently offering. Making evidence-based recommendations on future service delivery options, you will provide exceptional coaching solutions for the team. With a focus on reducing our response times, and in the process minimising complaints, you will have an annual agreed Council Tax collection rate that you will achieve, without ever dropping your commitment to customer satisfaction – so there is plenty of opportunity to make your mark on we do things. This will include bringing a compassionate approach to every challenge, so that we can recover as much Council Tax as possible, while being sensitive to people’s individual issues.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

With plenty of variety in everyday, you could find yourself providing Council Tax expertise for anything from family homes through to embassies and canal boats, all of which have complex legislation attached to them. This is an unusual challenge that is unique to London, so it is highly likely that you will therefore have experience of managing a multi-channel Council Tax service within another local authority. With a great knowledge of the relevant legislation and policies, you will have the ability to attend courts or tribunals as required, and the capacity to analyse and interpret complex data and intelligence. An IRRV qualification is desirable, though not essential. Crucially you will be an intuitive individual with plenty of energy, a sharp eye for detail, and excellent people management skills.

In turn, we can offer you a competitive benefits package that includes fantastic training and development opportunities, a competitive contributory pension, and generous annual leave.
