St Helens Borough is undergoing a transformation; not just in the regeneration of our towns and the economic growth in our key industries, but we have also undergone substantial change as a council. We have energetic political and officer leadership which is determined to get things done; and have undergone a council wide restructure with a renewed impetus on performance and outcomes for local people.

A top priority for the council is to make a difference to the lives of children and young people who live in the borough and we’re recruiting an Assistant Director of Children’s Social Care to help drive forward our improvement journey. You’ll have responsibility for the whole gamut of social care services, from early help to care leavers, and will have the full support of the DCS, wider council senior leadership team, political leaders, and Cabinet.

A qualified social worker, you’ll be an inspirational leader with significant senior management experience across children’s social care and an ability to provide strong leadership whilst empowering staff. You’ll know what ‘Good’ looks like and have a proven track record and a passion for making a positive difference and improving outcomes for children. You’ll also have excellent partnership skills, a strong political understanding, and the ability to deliver results and find solutions.

This is an exceptional opportunity to both enhance your career and make a real difference to the children, young people and families across our borough.
