Located in an attractive and rural environment on the eastern edge of Surrey, with almost 94% of the district covered by Green Belt, the Tandridge district has much to offer, with beautiful green spaces and a large number of conservation areas.

The planning department is key to delivering our strategic plan and the priorities for our residents and communities. We aspire to have a fully functioning and well-resourced planning service that protects the interests of the district, while creating the homes and infrastructure we desperately need. Planning is central to supporting the economy and we will look to the service to develop plans to promote and expand the economy, in line with our regeneration ambitions and masterplans. In becoming a greener, more sustainable district, we will look to this service to develop policies which promote green and sustainable development, working closely with local parishes and key stakeholders.

As our new Head of Planning Policy, you will lead on all areas connected to planning policy, including conservation and sustainable development. You will lead a professional team which will be pivotal in delivering the Local Plan.

You will manage all activities relating to planning policy, local planning, urban design, planning briefs, flood risk management and support neighbourhood plans. In taking on this role, you will make an important and positive contribution to the development of our district, supporting the delivery of our corporate objectives.

As the technical expert on planning policy and local planning, you will provide timely advice and guidance not only to your colleagues, but to the councillors and committees . With an eye to the future, you will use your knowledge of future changes in planning to ensure we deliver our services effectively and efficiently to our residents and communities.

About you

You will be a highly motivated and ambitious individual with considerable experience in planning policy and an in-depth knowledge of the legislation and policy guidance relating to local plans. You will have knowledge of housing and land use strategies, as well as an understanding of how best to use the community infrastructure levy to deliver the Council’s and communities, objectives.

While it is likely you will currently be working for a local council, we are open to considering applicants from outside the sector, who can demonstrate the transferable skills they have to be successful at Tandridge, as well as knowledge of the current trends impacting the sector

You will be a strong, open and transparent communicator, with excellent verbally and written skills. and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside our organisation.
