The Role:

As Clerk of Works, you’ll spend around half your week in the office and the rest on site. You’ll be an independent, impartial inspector of activity within the Major Works element of our Capital Work Programme. The programme spans major estate refurbishments through to cyclic maintenance, with an annual budget in excess of £50m. Projects involve multi-trade work to occupied residential properties, and you’ll be integral to making sure the project delivery high standards of quality. Ensuring that high quality products are installed, you will monitor and report on the fulfilment of both traditional and non-traditional building contracts. 

Communication will be key to your success, whether you are discussing plans with project managers and members of the commercial team, speaking to contractors or explaining issues to residents. Your responsibilities will range from reviewing contract documentation, advising on practical implications of implementing designs or areas for improvement, through to inspecting construction works for contractual and regulatory compliance, identifying the need for specialist testing, and producing reports. About You:

While experience as a clerk of works will certainly be an advantage, we’re also interested to hear from construction supervisors who can bring to the role relevant technical knowledge and experience of quality control and health & safety on site. You will certainly need to demonstrate technical competency, with the ability to read plans and specifications including contracts and design documents, and to understand how and why they should be applied. A background in quality assurance would really set you apart. Crucially, you must be a team player and demonstrate the ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people - from tenants and leaseholders, to contractors and consultants.
