Sunderland City Council
Location

Salary
£85,649 - £96,871
Closing date

Sunderland is a forward-thinking city undergoing significant transformation and economic regeneration. We have a global reputation as a welcoming and inclusive place in which to live, work, invest and grow. Whilst the pandemic has presented many challenges for our communities, we emerge with a renewed energy to create a connected international Smart City that is dynamic, vibrant and healthy, with opportunities for all, and with digital and low carbon at the heart of how we operate as a Council.

As Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Transportation you will ensure our city’s infrastructure keeps us connected as an international city, with opportunities for all, maximising the development and use of sustainable transport, and deliver the major projects that will continue to see our city transform and invest in protecting our physical environment and coastline. These are key enabling services in delivering our City Plan which outlines our vision for 2030, and services that will be critical in unlocking many of the Council’s low carbon ambitions.

With a professional background in highways and engineering, you will be adept at developing strong teams where individual colleagues focus on delivering excellence. As a smart city that is digitally enabled, you will harness the opportunities that technology has to offer in transforming how we deliver services in a way that is exponentially better. We are seeking someone with an aspiration and energy for future delivery, who can shape how we do things differently and embrace innovation.

Welcoming innovators, trailblazers, movers and shakers; Sunderland continues to revolutionise to compete globally, whilst remaining grounded and mindful of our rich heritage and culture. We believe in more – more investment, greater opportunities, wider partnerships, boundless learning, further inclusivity and widespread support. Sunderland is already demonstrating the leading attributes of an urban centre of the future as Smart City of the Year in 2020 and Digital Council of the Year in 2021.
