Help us raise standards across London’s most iconic borough.

When you join our team at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you will find a very clear focus. We are passionate about improving and enhancing the life outcomes of our residents, and we believe in putting these people at the heart of every decision. This is particularly important within Property Services, where our Repairs and Operations colleagues are at the forefront of delivering a better quality of life for those who live in council-owned and council-leased properties. Following the Grenfell tragedy, we are working with our local residents to help the community recover, and we are focused on building strong communities where people can afford to live, work and raise their children within the borough. And it is here that you could find a fascinating challenge.

The Role:

Leading a large team of Surveyors who are working across Property Services, you will ultimately be responsible for the delivery of a wide variety of technical surveying functions. Whether conducting asbestos management surveys, void specification checks or CDM regulatory checks, you will ensure we are meeting the highest performance standards. With a close eye on budgets and expected deadlines, you will be responsible for both pre and post inspection of works, seeing to it that colleagues and contractors who are working in residents’ homes are safe, and you will be capable of balancing the needs of multiple priorities. You will also handle the full range of procurements duties, from initially inviting tenders through to preparing specifications of works and monitoring the quality of resulting outputs. As you will be working collaboratively with both our local community and other departments across the council, you will use your exceptional communication skills to deliver a joined-up service that exceeds the expectations of our residents, and you will be capable of working with legal services to handle complex litigation cases.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

As a qualified Surveyor with RICS or equivalent membership, you will have the ability to work with construction drawings and specifications, and you will have an exceptional understanding of the relevant legislation. This will include a comprehensive knowledge of building contracts, the Party Wall Act, and the Housing Construction and Regeneration Act. With substantial technical expertise in building construction and regulation, you will have experience of repairs practise and planning, and you will be confident in your procurement capabilities. Ideally coming from a background in which you have offered a technical frontline service, you will be customer-focused with the capacity to come up with solutions to complex problems. We will expect you to be able to use CAD, and you will have well-developed numerical skills, with the ability to analyse pricing schedules, grant applications and statistical data. Crucially, you will help us build a pipeline of talent by training and supervising multidisciplinary teams.

In turn, we can offer you plenty of variety in every day, plus a generous benefits package that includes a competitive pension scheme, generous annual leave, and plenty of training opportunities.
