Our Team

Bridge and Design Services Team sits within the wider Major Projects Team of the Highways and Transportation service. Our core functions are to deliver the County Council’s Highways Asset Management service, design, construct and maintain the council’s highway structures, provide strategic/ professional guidance to colleagues in other teams dealing with highway structures. We also carry out strength Assessments and inspections on Highway Structures on the network

The role

As our Senior Engineer Bridges you will be responsible for the identification of schemes and their design to completion, on time and budget, to assess and manage the movement of vehicles which are Abnormal Loads travelling on the Highway Network, interact with partners to facilitate improved service delivery. You will also be responsible for the financial management of Capital and Revenue Projects carried out by the team to maintain the council’s infrastructure, and act as the Technical Approval Authority for the County Council

What you will bring:

You must hold a degree or HNC/HND in an appropriate discipline and have knowledge of highway design issues including Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) and be familiar with Euro codes and other construction related standards and codes/guidance, and experience of procurements of highway related works including the preparation of contract documents, as well as good working knowledge of Health & safety in construction. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate technical information to non-specialists. Have the ability to problem solve and find practical solutions, have analytical and decision making skills as well as excellent organisation skills. You will also have strong ICT skills including the use of a number of different software packages, including AutoCad drawing and Asset Management packages. You will also be collaborative and supportive of the Teams warm ambiance.
