Placing our residents, communities and businesses at the heart of everything we do.

A county of contrasts, West Sussex covers both coast and the South Downs National Park, encompassing harbours, farmland and market towns whilst being home to significant businesses and the UK’s second largest international airport. The county council is on an improvement journey and over the past two years, we have supported people through the pandemic, made significant service improvements and developed our corporate infrastructure. Reporting to the Chief Executive and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role will build on this progress and working with the Director of Public Health, ensure the professional leadership of the Adult Social Care and Public Health agenda so we continue to place our residents, communities and businesses at the heart of everything we do.

You will lead our Adult Social Care and Public Health services, with our Director of Public Health, implementing our recently agreed adults’ strategy; developing and implementing cost effective and innovative strategies for provision of services, underpinned by focussed business and financial planning and targeted investment.

You will lead the partnership working with all parts of the health service and the Sussex independent care sector and work with others effectively to ensure we have a successful local health and social care system.

An experienced Director of Adult Social Care you will have excellent leadership and communication skills and a proven track record of delivery, resource management and the leadership of a complex set of services in the context of a local health and social care system. You will have the ability to develop productive working relationships internally and with external partners and providers.

This is a tremendous opportunity to make a difference at the very heart of an organisation with renewed purpose and strong leadership, whilst working in a place that is ambitious to fulfil its enormous potential.
