Maidstone Borough Council, Swale Borough Council and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are recruiting a Director to lead Mid Kent Services

The Role

In this highly visible leadership role at Mid Kent Services, you will work across all of our member councils to drive new ways of internal and external working, shaping best practice, delivering savings and driving increased commercial income.

You will take overall accountability for strategic direction, management and service provision, and will create a culture where every opportunity is maximised.

Capable of shaping and delivering a shared vision, you will set budgets, engage stakeholders, communicate strategies and articulate outcomes.

There are opportunities to lead on major strategic innovation and transformation initiatives, so you will create a flexible and responsive service that can tailor its approach to individual organisation’s requirements.

You will win confidence quickly, provide real assurance at senior management level and offer credibility at the political interface across all three councils.

The Organisation

Mid-Kent Services (MKS) delivers a range of high quality and cost-effective shared services across Maidstone, Swale, and Tunbridge Wells Borough Councils (plus Ashford Borough Council for the Audit Shared Service).

MKS’s focus is on innovative service delivery to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction whilst reducing costs for residents and setting the standard for other authorities to follow.

The Shared Service Director is responsible to all three councils and held to account via the existing governance arrangements. The services in MKS report to a Shared Service Board and the Director is supported by the MKS leadership team.

Candidates

Right now you could be working in the public or private sector and you’ll already have established a track record in leading the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary services.

We’re looking for an individual with extensive senior level experience, with the breadth of expertise to lead a wide range of professional and operational services.

You will lead, manage, coach and encourage – ensuring that our people deliver consistently best performance in a changing partnership environment.

Flexibility, problem-solving, relationship-building; these are all key strands in your enabling, supportive and inspiring approach.
