Barnsley - the place of possibilities

We have tremendous ambition for our children and young people in Barnsley as a place of possibilities and we are really proud of our Children’s Services.

At our last social care inspection from Ofsted we were rated as 'Good', but that has only spurred us on to improve further and continue our work to ensure all of Barnsley’s children and young people achieve their full potential.

Our new Director will join a well-managed, resilient organisation that has real political and corporate commitment to children’s services. This has enabled our leaders to create a stable and secure service whilst building a very effective, system wide, partnership environment that has responded well to the challenges of the pandemic. The high levels of trust and confidence amongst key partners help create the climate for further innovation and service development that will realise our high levels of ambition.

We are looking for someone to build on this strong platform, continuing the excellent leadership of our social care services whilst developing further our strong relationships with schools. Through appropriate challenge and strong support, we can help our schools offer the very best for Barnsley’s children whilst ensuring more of them can thrive in mainstream settings. As a corporate leader, you will work creatively with colleagues across the council, developing innovative practices and cost-effective solutions that continue to drive better outcomes.
