We have restructured our Chief Officer team to ensure we are fit for the future and ready to meet our challenges and vision as a council. Phase one of our recruitment appointed our three new Directors, phase two is to appoint our Head of Service team. We have a number of vacancies as a result of the restructure, retirements and internal talent progression. It’s an exciting time to join us with real opportunities to make your mark in Newport.
Reporting to the Strategic Director – Social Services, you will work closely with the Head of Prevention and Inclusion Services, Head of Adult Services and Head of Education, and will be accountable for our children social services provision. The role leads children services in areas such as children’s social work, youth justice, safeguarding, domestic abuse services (VAWDASV), children’s residential and operations, and fostering and adoption.
You will be a values-based leader and have a key role in advising the Director and elected Members on service provision and practice, transformation and change, and ensure an engaged, talented, resourced and capable workforce is in place.
You will be at the centre of partner relationships both locally and regionally. You will ensure the service is aligned with the organisational objectives and political priorities, while leading a large and multifunctional team. You will also maintain robust financial monitoring of budgets.
We are looking for an ambitious and truly transformational leader to deliver modernised and sustainable services to our communities. If you can evidence your ability to transform services and improve outcomes, we would love to hear from you.
We want someone with a proven track record who wants to develop their leadership skills in a challenging but exciting environment. You should be a visionary who can impact culture in the workforce with the ability to build engaged, enabled and high performing teams.
