CHOOSE YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

Southend-on-Sea is a place like no other. And what a place to live, work and play. A vibrant, entrepreneurial place, with a burgeoning cultural scene, we are a place of escapism and fun, where the underground meets the mainstream.  Our vision, impact and potential are limitless.  Forget the norm.  Forget expectations.  Forget the beaten path.  Southend is the alternative seaside experience.

As Director of Children’s Social Work, Early Help & Youth Support, you will be the operational lead for the service, driving practice and service improvement, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the service.  Capitalising on our positive corporate environment your inclusive, visible leadership will position Southend as a place where great social workers want to practice and develop their careers and help secure the success of our improvement programme.

Our staff have led the co-production of a new vision for the Service, one where all children experience love, a sense of safety and the opportunity to achieve success.  Together with staff, partners and service users you will make this vision a reality.  You will lead improvement in the quality and capacity of our in-house fostering service.  Placement stability and permanence will progress under your leadership. Overseeing the development of improved quality assurance will be a key priority as part of your wider focus on improving outcomes and quality of practice.

We are already making good progress.  Together we are tackling serious, high profile issues; our partnership work on criminal exploitation, including county lines and gang affiliation, and our successful See the Signs campaign has received national recognition.  There is so much more that we want to do and you will make it happen.

We are looking for a visible, values-based leader with a passion for workforce development and a track record securing improvement in practice and safeguarding in children’s social work.  You will bring the ability to communicate and engage effectively across the service, bringing consistency and rigour to management oversight.  Your drive for improvement at pace and your commitment to child centred social work will mark you out for success.

Succeed in this role and you will have delivered a step change in the quality, practice and performance, modernising and improving services and operations, and ensuring we can achieve our vision for all children and young people in Southend.
