We are committed to flexible working, so please read the Job and Person Profile to find out about the types of flexible or part time working available for this role.

We are looking for an exceptionally strong and experienced system leader with demonstrable innovation to shape the future of autism, learning disabilities, sensory services and mental health needs across Suffolk, ensuring that we make a real difference to the lives of residents.

Your role

We have big ambitions for our Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Services and we need someone who can deliver at pace on our transformational plans to deliver the best outcomes for adults in a sustainable way. We are proud of our integrated work with Health and district councils, and need someone who works collaboratively, sees opportunities for partnership working and drives this through. The Suffolk third sector is strong, well established and a key partner for adult social care. We need someone who understands the role of communities in supporting vulnerable residents and can develop a "front door" service that reflects this.

You will:

  • be an experienced and confident leader with a strong background in social care
  • be responsible for countywide services and be able to understand and navigate relationships between local and countrywide teams
  • work closely with county Councillors, the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT) and Health Leadership to develop and deliver the council's political and strategic agendas
  • as a leader, be expected to promote the county council's vision, objectives, and priorities effectively to staff, partners, and the public, and inspire others by role modelling our organisational values at all times
  • promote a culture of value for money, outcome-based customer focus and continuous improvement.

In Suffolk we are proud of the work we are leading on inclusion and diversity and require leaders who can demonstrate commitment.

Experience of senior leadership, creating the conditions for a high-performance culture and exploring new ways of working, is essential and you will need the credibility, vision and innovative thinking to really engage, influence and inspire others.

You will need to be an effective decision maker who is adept at analysing different approaches, managing risk, and delivering long term sustainable change across a complex system. You will report into the Director of Adult and Community Services and will be part of a dynamic leadership team that is bold, ambitious and will support you to grow in your role.

We are inviting confident and visionary leaders to join us to improve outcomes for our local population.

Travelling requirements for your role

We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate and engage, but in this role, you will need to travel, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means. If you require a reasonable adjustment due to a disability to meet the travel requirements of this role, please speak with the contact detailed below.

For an informal discussion, please contact Georgia Chimbani, Director of Adult and Community Services at Suffolk County Council on 07522 712643.
