Children’s services in Birmingham are continuously improving. We have developed an environment where learning, development and practice improvement are underpinning principles for us service wide. We pride ourselves on innovation and achieving what we set out to do, we are proud of the way that our workforce has responded to children and families during the covid pandemic. We have a clear plan in place for the next part of our journey.

We are now looking to appoint a permanent Assistant Director to join the next steps of our journey. The successful candidate, who will report directly to the Director of Practice, will be responsible for leading and shaping the delivery of key social work services within the South of the City.

With a clear understanding of, and vision for effective social work practice, the successful applicant will provide strong and effective senior leadership, managing a large group of leaders, social workers and social care staff who are responsible for the assessment of children in need, child protection planning and children in care support. We are looking for someone who has a detailed understanding of relevant statutory frameworks in which services are delivered.

We are interested in interviewing candidates who can demonstrate a proven track record of delivering effective children’s services at a senior level for every part of the child’s journey.
