Chief Executive

Employer
Bedford Borough Council
Location
Bedfordshire
Salary
Up to £185k
Closing date
1 Jun 2021

Bedford’s been on a journey of consistent growth, investment and improvement since 2009. And while we know the pandemic will have a lasting effect on many aspects of our work and local role, we believe that we’re in a strong position to support a sustainable recovery in the coming years. Not least of our assets is our position at the heart of the new East-West rail line linking Oxford and Cambridge – and we’re proud to be one of the most ethnically diverse towns in the country. Our next Chief Executive will therefore join an organisation with not only a great track record, but also a vibrant culture of creative, collaborative and place-focused decision making. With a highly-regarded elected Mayor, and members who are totally committed to improving the lives and opportunities of all, the built-in advantages of our unitary structure mean we can innovate quickly and effectively.

What are we looking for? Perhaps inevitably in a postCOVID future, candidates must be able to show a deep understanding of financial management in a constrained environment, as well as an excellent ability to shape and lead organisational transformation. We need to be ready to think, act and plan in a way that’s thoroughly new, and you’ll help us to shape a stronger future. Able to advocate passionately for Bedford both as a place and a community, you’ll be a complete and experienced leader, and an Olympic-level relationship builder. Exemplifying our culture and values in everything you do, you must bring a powerful personal vision of how equality, diversity and inclusion can be lived out by everyone, every day.

Closing date: noon, 1 June 2021.
