About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Children, Schools & Families and working closely with Members, our corporate management team and our family of schools, you will:

  • Lead and shape the Education & Early Help division, transforming and continuously improving a portfolio that includes school improvement, early years and children’s centres and integrated services for children with complex needs / SEN.
  • Provide leadership for the directorate wide policy, performance and partnerships service and our recently created early help service.
  • Support delivery of strategic plans and priorities as well as council, departmental and service business plans.
  • Co-chair the Borough’s school partnership, Attain, championing and supporting its activities so it continues to drive collaborative school improvement in the Borough
  • Work closely with the Council’s political leadership, opposition and scrutiny to develop, improve and report on service performance.
  • Provide inspirational leadership of staff, partnerships and projects that secure delivery of Merton’s priorities for residents

About You

In this role you will need to show you are able to bring strategic leadership, operational grip and professional expertise to a complex and broad portfolio of services that carry significant political visibility and contribute to vital organisational priorities.

This is a significant leadership role in an authority with a history of long term and sustained improvement, grounded in successful collaboration across the education system.  Your ability to quickly build trusted relationships, based on your professional credibility and personal integrity will be essential.  We will expect you to be a Qualified Teacher working in a senior leadership role in either a Local Authority, School or Trust.
