This is a wide portfolio including Safeguarding, Provider Services, Principal Social Worker (PSW) and therapy, it also includes hosting the Approved Mental Health (AMHP) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) functions for the county.

We are looking for someone with a firm understanding of the different drivers and the ability to balance priorities in the varied services. They will need strong backgrounds in, preferably, at least two of the main areas for the service or the ability to transfer and embed knowledge.

AMHP, DoLS, PSW & therapy functions involve professionally qualified staff, so the ability to manage staff groups who are under pressure and manage complex working relationships are key.

This role needs real attention to detail in order to monitor, maintain and improve performance. This post will have a lot of executive and Member attention because of the nature of the functions and the ability to hold a room will be important. Gravitas along with being able to stay calm in a crisis are must-haves.

There will be a significant amount of partnership working with this role, including strategically with the police, NHS partners, the care quality commission. The successful candidate will need the ability to engage with senior officers up to CEO level and be able to provide assurance that things won’t fail. Good experience of working with and providing assurance to executive officers, or a sound understanding of how to do this well will therefore be important as will a resilient attitude and calmness in a crisis.
