We have a vacancy in a role that makes a significant difference to people where you can take pride from doing it well. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Service Manager responsible for the Medico-Legal Centre and Bereavement Services. The Medico-Legal Centre houses the Coronial Service, Coroner’s Courts, and the city’s public mortuary. Bereavement Services is responsible for the city’s cemeteries and two Council operated crematoria. Both these services have been instrumental in Sheffield’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Primarily, this unique role is about leadership, forward thinking and innovation. You will lead and manage the Council’s Coronial and Bereavement teams who are exceptionally highly regarded, public-facing teams supporting the bereaved of Sheffield. This is a busy and challenging role that will be demanding yet rewarding and, particularly during the current climate, no one day will be the same.

Working within the Parks and Countryside Service, as part of the senior team, you will ensure that the services we provide are the best that they can be now and moving forward. We have an ambition to deliver modern, accessible, compassionate bereavement services and we need a gifted operational leader who has the vision, tenacity and capabilities to play an instrumental part toward achieving this. You will have the drive and experience it takes to look at new ways of delivering our services to help us make a real difference.

You will have exceptional partnership capabilities, underpinned by the ability to get things done. You will be an inclusive and authentic leader and a desire to achieve excellence. You don’t need to have experience of working in Bereavement Services; but we expect that you’ll be attuned to the unique nature of services that support the bereaved during a difficult time.
