Head of Legal and Democratic (Monitoring Officer)

Employer
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils
Location
Oxfordshire
Salary
£100,281
Closing date

Working in partnership to provide excellent services for residents, businesses and other organisations in the southern half of Oxfordshire. We innovate and create, and we have a keen focus on tackling the challenges of local government head-on. Our districts share a unique blend of beautiful rural countryside sat alongside high-tech, cutting-edge science and technology businesses coupled with vibrant towns and villages that deliver a strong sense of community.

We are currently seeking to recruit someone with the ability to lead cultural change and develop excellent relationships with senior officers, Members and partners. The role covers legal and democratic services and includes the statutory responsibilities of Monitoring Officer. We are looking for an individual with a strong track record of practical action and service achievement. Put simply, the capacity to form strong and positive relationships is as important as your knowledge of the law. As well as the need for emotional intelligence and integrity, an increasingly complex political and financial landscape means that agility and speed of movement are qualities we also need in this role. As we strive to refine what excellent service delivery looks like, in a post-Covid era, we will look to you to play a key role in re-engineering the way we operate and the good governance to go with it. To achieve this, you will also bring sophisticated negotiating and influencing skills and the ability to explain proposals and gain consensus for change.

There is much to get your teeth into, our agendas will unquestionably provide scope to develop your career aspirations and provide stretch and growth. We are therefore seeking suitably qualified candidates with considerable experience of leading legal services in a local authority environment, so if you want to work in an innovative, honest and straight-forward culture, managing change to improve outcomes for our communities, we would love to hear from you.
