This is a unique opportunity to join a team working in a joint post across Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council as a senior member of the Adults and Safeguarding Directorate.  We have a shared management team working across both Councils with a shared vision and set of priorities.  As the Head of Safeguarding you’ll be reporting to the DASS, providing strategic leadership and direction on Safeguarding, Quality and Practice, Customer Services, Carers and Care Home Support.  The Principal Social Worker will report directly to you and you will have strategic oversight of the development and implementation of our front line practice.

As a county council and city unitary, we support a diverse population from rural communities to inner city suburbs, with each locality presenting their own challenges. We have developed a team that is flexible and able to respond to these individual needs, with a person-centred strengths-based approach that maximises independence and wellbeing and achieves good outcomes through effective collaboration with other public and third sector partners.  We have learnt a lot through the pandemic and we think we can go further in our transformation process - this role will be crucial to achieving that.

We are going further with our ‘Adults Positive Challenge’ programme which is transforming our services through technology, our relationships with communities and customers, the way we support carers, our approach to commissioning and how we support people to maintain their independence. We are also developing a place-based approach to delivery with our partners in health, alongside established integrated arrangements as part of an ICS.

We are looking for someone who is ambitious, keen to drive change and has the skills to work in a collaborative way developing solutions with our front line staff and partners.  We are looking for someone who is passionate about leading and directing the development and implementation of practice that will improve quality and outcomes and safeguard adults from abuse and neglect. Our Head of Safeguarding, will influence operational practice working as a key member of a strong management team.  You will have the opportunity to grow and learn with the full support of colleagues and the senior leadership team. To excel in this role, you will need to be collaborative and share our ambition for delivering the best for both authorities.

We are in search of someone with the skills to influence and enthuse others, challenge the norm and achieve the best outcomes for our residents.

In return we offer a suite of benefits including generous annual leave allowance and relocation scheme a supportive forward thinking working environment, with the opportunity to work in a flexible way from home as well as from a number of locations across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Candidates will need to be available for an initial panel interview on Tuesday 11th May and a formal interview on Thursday 13th May.  You will have an opportunity to meet potential team members, peers and partners as part of the process.

To arrange an informal conversation with our DASS, Charlotte Black, about this opportunity, please contact Lorraine.Burton@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or call 07966151337.
