Job Details

As we tackle the immediate challenges of Covid-19 and as we plan for the future beyond, we have created a new Head of Neighbourhood Services role that will ensure the effective delivery of high quality, resident-focused, efficient services in the 21st Century.

The postholder will report to the Executive Director of Place and in addition to leading the work of some of the council’s most high profile and visible front line services such as highways management and maintenance, environmental services, parking, community safety and leisure client.

The head of service role will also be responsible for the management of the shared Joint Emergency Planning Unit service (provided by West Berkshire District Council) and undertake other shared roles including ceremonial events, police liaison and rural forum lead officer.

The neighbourhood services unit will support the ‘place shaping’ happening in the Royal Borough, working alongside planning, transport, leisure and cultural services within the directorate.

We have made several changes in our Place services as we seek to continue the modernisation of our services and helping us support and grow the local economy of Windsor and Maidenhead. We therefore require a Head of Neighbourhood Services with a previous track record in leading and managing large scale services, preferably with contract management experience and an innovative, modernising approach to ensuring we have solid reliable and customer focused frontline services.

We are keen to attract a diverse range of candidates. What is critical is that you enjoy and thrive working in a team environment and have a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.

For an informal and confidential discussion about this position please contact Andrew Durrant, Director of Place Services at andrew.durrant@rbwm.gov.uk to arrange a call, or please click apply below.

Company

The whole of Eton town is a conservation area and there are significant areas of Windsor and Cookham similarly designated. The district includes 148 acres of parks, open spaces and recreational grounds and enjoys extensive riverside frontage with associated amenity areas. On the 1 April 1998 the Royal Borough and the other five Berkshire districts became Unitary Authorities and took over responsibility for the services previously provided by the former Berkshire County Council. The Royal Borough includes two ancient boroughs each with its own tradition and history. Windsor is known throughout the world for its castle, which has been a fortress and Royal residence for over 850 years. Both Windsor and its neighbour, Eton are major tourist attractions. The area of the Royal Borough extends along both banks of the River Thames between Runnymede and Windsor and on the south bank of the Thames from Windsor to Hurley. This area includes Datchet, Horton, Wraysbury, Old Windsor, Windsor Great Park, Sunninghill, Sunningdale, the Ascot Racecourse, the castle and the town of Windsor, Eton with its famous college, Maidenhead, the villages of Bray, Cookham and Hurley, White Waltham and Waltham St. Lawrence.
