Job Details

Kent is an ambitious and highly influential county and a key part of the UK economy.  With the largest population of the English counties, over 450,000 of the 1.5 million people living in Kent are under 25.

In line with our commitments to give Kent’s children the best start in life; ensure that families get the right help and support when they need it; and to ensure every young person in Kent gets the education, skills, and experiences they need for a successful future, we are looking for an Assistant Director, Disabled Children & Young People to join our leadership team.

The role

You will provide leadership to the largest disabled children and young people service in the country, managing complex service through an exciting period of change and transformation into high quality operating models. Working closely with our children, young people, and their families, you will ensure your teams are truly committed to providing ‘the best start in life’ as a minimum expectation.

Partnerships are the key to success in this role and developing our services for the future; you will embrace working with our colleagues in the health, education, and voluntary sectors to provide the very best outcomes.

This role requires vision, and you will provide clear direction to build towards a long-term plan. Whilst the demand and pressure on our services are high, you will never lose sight of where you are going. You will ensure children, young people and their families are at the centre of what we do.

About you

As a proven leader from the children’s social work, early help, education, health, or voluntary sector, you will have a real passion for delivering services and positive outcomes for people with disabilities. Working in partnership with other agencies, partners and stakeholders will be second nature to you. You will be able to innovate and transform services to meet strategic objectives whilst ensuring our children, young people and their families are at the heart of what you do.

You will be an expert in your field; able to contribute to policy creation and strategic direction ahead of turning this into operational reality. You will have the ability to communicate with confidence and compassion.

Company

In East Kent, tourism is a major industry and the attractions include world famous Canterbury and seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate. The landscape is ideal for cycling, horse riding and walking, there are many footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way. The county thrives on its reputation as the Gateway to Europe and its use as the United Kingdom's principal access to the continent through ports like Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Dartford and Sheerness is increasing rapidly. Major development has taken place on the coast and inland associated with the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One of the largest business parks in Europe is being developed jointly with American developer Rouse (Kent), and is known as Kings Hill. Kent has also traditionally been regarded as the Garden of England, deriving from the quality of its agriculture and in particular the intensive fruit, vegetable and hop production. Traditional Kentish industries like papermaking and cement manufacture are located in North and Mid-Kent, particularly along the banks of the Rivers Thames and Medway. The ease of access to neighbouring London and the lure of a decent house in pleasant surroundings have attracted many new residents from the capital.
