We are making some significant investments to underpin our new plans, and as a result, having completed a leadership restructure we are proud to announce that we have created 3 brand new roles, with the intention of better serving the people and communities of York. In many ways we embarking on a new journey, building back better and providing you with the opportunity to shape, lead and influence service in this great City. The roles are Director of Safeguarding, Director of Prevention and Commissioning and Assistant Director of Policy and Strategy.
As the Assistant Director for Policy and Strategy you will work closely with the corporate leadership team, senior elected members, elected members and our key partners to develop and deliver a cohesive, transparent and unified strategy, underpinned by core integrated policies. Ensuring a coherent and consistent message and that linkages are made to unify resources is essential for effective working and forming deeply collaborative partnerships
The business of local government is complex and multi-layered; requiring strategic leadership that retains resolute clarity of focus and operates with high levels of integrity.
As the Council’s senior policy adviser you will ensure that through robust performance and scrutiny we meet performance framework requirements, together with the use of research and business intelligence to inform our approach, so that we deliver on our ambitions. You will ensure that the Council has effective engagement in and shapes local strategic partnerships; fosters positive relationships with local public sector partners and communities; and has effective engagement with local communities. You will ensure that our strategies and policies reflect the needs of York’s residents and communities and ensure our role in meeting their needs is understood and underpins everything we do.
We are looking for someone who will ensure that the Council has relevant and appropriate corporate policies which set our strategic direction and priorities, meet the needs of communities, are mainstreamed and embedded appropriately within the work of all parts of the council, and protect the council from risk of legal and public challenge.
We are looking to appoint a trusted adviser who ensures the Council takes a strategic view of new and developing issues, responding appropriately to ever-changing developments. You will be constantly up to date with new and emerging issues regionally, nationally and internationally. Integrity is at your core.
In this role you will provide strategic management of business intelligence, climate change, communications and executive support and play a key role in informing and shaping corporate policy and strategy.
You will ensure robust and effective performance monitoring, promote strong media and PR activity internally and externally, and provide effective policy and communications support to the Council, including the Chief Operating Officer, Leader of the Council, Executive Members and Corporate Management Team.
It is a pivotal role; the remit covers areas of high profile projects and programmes such as supporting the delivery of the Council Plan, devolution, local government reorganisation and Brexit transition. You will enhance, promote and preserve the Council’s global reputation.
