Chief Planning Officer

Renfrewshire Council
Location
Renfrewshire
Salary
£75,737 - £82,800
Closing date
7 Feb 2021

Renfrewshire lies immediately west of the city of Glasgow and is home to stunning countryside, an amazing industrial and social history, a vibrant cultural and arts scene and world class businesses. We are the base for some of the UK’s biggest engineering, technology and logistics companies and home to the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, Glasgow Airport and Braehead Shopping Centre. Renfrewshire is a popular place to live, has a growing population and significant demand for new housing and commercial development. We are in the process of delivering an ambitious City Deal, Cultural Infrastructure and Housing investment programme of circa £350m.

Planning is a priority as we look to the future and shape our towns and villages for tomorrow. You will be joining us at an exciting time in this new role developed through the Council’s transformation programme. As a senior leader within our Economy and Development Team in the Chief Executive’s Service, you will lead our Development Management, Building Standards, Planning Policy and Housing Strategy teams and help them to support evolving places and communities. Together, you’ll provide a high-quality service and deliver sustainable development plans through fit-for-purpose processes and procedures. And, by working closely with stakeholders, you’ll see that all activities fit with our broader objectives.

You’ll also strive to make the Planning function the best that it can be by supporting and mentoring colleagues so they’re equipped to make effective decisions. Meanwhile, you’ll be encouraging collaboration across the Council organisation and shaping a business-minded function that applies innovative practice in conjunction with stakeholders and communities.

We want you to be our lead officer for Planning, providing expert advice at the highest levels; to elected members, to businesses, to communities and to colleagues at city region and national forums. You must therefore be a capable individual with the confidence and experience to give support and guidance.  You will have vision, enthusiasm and a successful track record in planning, building surveying or a related discipline, particularly in driving change and delivering results at a senior level within large and complex organisations.
