This is a great time to join Kent County Council.  As the biggest County Council in the country, there is a fantastic opportunity to make a big difference. Our focus is to work as one council to design and deliver a cohesive, modern, effective and efficient public service offer for all Kent’s residents, businesses and communities, working effectively together across the council and with our partners.  Kent is a great county to live in too, with excellent schools, vibrant towns, a spectacular coastline, rolling green hills and beautiful scenery that blends in with the many historic buildings.

Kent has experienced significant growth in recent years and continues to adapt to the challenges it faces to ensure the services of the authority meet the needs of an expanding population.

During the course of the last year the Administration has refocused the Five-year Plan in order to develop our Interim Strategic Plan “Setting the Course” outlining five key challenges to enable sustainable recovery and growth for our County.

A strategic economic development role, the Director, Growth and Communities will represent the Council, enabling it to deliver its ambitions for their environment, physical community infrastructure and non-structural reform.

The role will increase partnering activity with Kent communities and with other private and public sector organisations such as the Local Enterprise Partnership, Chamber and ALMOs; unlocking potential in the considerable assets and land that the county holds.  A newly created role, the Director will support the Corporate Director in leading sustainable business growth, strategic infrastructure planning and community initiatives including libraries, culture and the arts, improving the lives of all Kent residents and the economy of Kent.  As a progressive and ambitious County Council, Kent invites and encourages creative thinking and you will be surrounded by like-minded peers.

A strategic thinker with operational understanding, your background will outline your successes and contributions to communities and local economies. This may have been within local government or perhaps as a partner to local authorities. You will have a track record of developing beneficial and commercial partnerships, with a broad range of organisations and have held responsibility for leading on a range of growth and community related strategies.

We are keen to work with exceptional individuals who have the energy, ideas and ambition to make a sustained difference to the people of Kent; someone who shares our commitment to improving the quality of life of our residents and is able to maximise their impact through working in partnership across the Council and with other organisations.
