Southend-on-Sea is a place like no other. And what a place to live, work and play. A vibrant, entrepreneurial place, with a burgeoning cultural scene, we are also blessed with many of the things you would expect from a traditional seaside town.  And it is a town that welcomes over 7 million visitors very year.

Our Southend 2050 Ambition set a radical, new direction of travel to a future where all Southenders live, learn and work in a prosperous, confident and well-connected city.  To deliver our ambition we embarked on a fundamental programme of change.  We are already a Council that is more agile, more efficient, more entrepreneurial and more engaged with residents and customers.  Our “Transforming Together” values have become an integral part of who we are and how we work.

As Director of Commissioning you will drive organisational development and culture change to ensure that services deliver for all our residents.  This is a broad, all-encompassing role, co-producing change, driving improved outcomes for adults, children and public health services and working closely with partners in the NHS and voluntary sector.  You and your team will play a fundamental part in our Covid-19 recovery plans.

You will have the licence to bring flair and innovation to your work, underpinning your creativity with the development of a framework of strategies and plans that deliver on our commitments and take forward our Council-wide approach to commissioning, embedding these principles corporately.

Succeed in this role and you will have transformed Southend’s commissioning of key social care and health services, playing a significant role in reshaping and modernising our provider market, meeting our commitment to developing more personalised, strengths-based models of care.

If you are a leader who drives positive change, encourages innovation and delivers outcomes in a collaborative, commercial way, then come to Southend and help shape our city of the future.
