The communities of West Sussex enjoy some of the best quality of life, but also significant demographic and economic challenges, especially in the current pandemic. We are looking for an inspiring Director of Public Health to join the County Council’s senior leadership team and lead the Public Health team and agenda in West Sussex.

We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to make a real and positive difference to the lives of our residents, communities and businesses. The successful candidate will have a track record of delivering change, working within a complex health and care system, using your influencing skills to deliver positive outcomes for the population and working effectively with our many partners and communities.

You will have a proven track record in resolving complex health problems and a detailed understanding of how to approach health inequalities and working with the wider determinants of health, in order to support health improvement against a background of the Covid19 pandemic, reducing budgets and increasing pressure on services.

As our statutory chief officer, you will advise Members, senior management teams and key stakeholders, including the Sussex Health and Care Partnership and the CCG, on all matters relating to Public Health. Strong partnership working experience, both internally and externally, is essential, coupled with excellent leadership skills and the required specialist public health registration with GMC, GDC or UK PHR allied to significant experience in all areas of public health practice.
