Hertfordshire County Council

Location: Flexible however based at County Hall, Hertford

Hours: Full time 37 hours per week, part time considered

Contract: Fixed term till March 2022.

Implement your boldest ideas in Hertfordshire.

Home to a dynamic population, Hertfordshire’s residents enjoy a great quality of life – something that we at the County Council are committed to enhancing wherever possible. Here, our people work as a collaborative team to maintain a great quality of life for every resident, with forward-thinking services that are value-for-money and of the highest standards. One such example is the £multimillion A120 bypass at Little Hadham. With the scope to enhance our neighbourhoods, this is just one of the ways in which we are working creatively to identify how best we can support our community. Join us in our Environment and Infrastructure team, and you could be at the heart of a number of these high-profile challenges.

This is a far-reaching role that will provide you with the chance to get involved in an array of fascinating challenges. We have a reputation for excellence in key areas including sustainability and transport strategy, and as such, you could be tasked with anything from representing the council in support of our Growth Agenda, through to the ongoing consultation relating to minerals waste planning. Whether looking after day-to-day community development, or formulating strategic, transport and infrastructure plans for thriving towns up to the year 2050, you will balance immediate concerns with long-term planning goals. As the council’s principal advisor across these areas, your influence will shape decisions being made, and the investment of resources.

This is a valuable opportunity to join us in a fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will have the chance to make an impact from day one, so you will need to hit the ground running. As such, we would expect you to have senior level experience in strategic planning, infrastructure and economic issues, and you will have the capacity to work in a complex political environment. You will need exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills, and you will have the gravitas to handle relationships with our central government colleagues, commercial operators and suppliers.

As a member of our ambitious senior leadership team, you will have access to a highly desirable benefits package that includes flexible working options, and the scope to explore your biggest ideas. With ample opportunity to develop your skills in large-scale projects, you will be at the heart of our progressive growth agenda.
