Now is the time to show your ambition and progress your career by joining Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s, Community, Safety and Streetscene service. We are looking to appoint a Head of Fleet and Transport Services to lead and manage the Council’s Fleet and Transport Services.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Community, Safety and Streetscene, this role is responsible for the provision of our in-house fleet commissioning and maintenance services, alongside a range of passenger transport services, including Home to School transport and transport of vulnerable adults.

As Head of Service, you will lead and develop a customer–focused service that is responsive and flexible to our customer’s needs and is delivered to a high standard. This will include building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and agencies.

Experience of successful budget management including evaluation of competing budgetary priorities is essential, as is, knowledge and a significant understanding of the legislative frameworks and government policy agendas in respect of this field of work. You will develop policies and strategies in relation to transport provision.

You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills, together with the ability to motivate and lead staff from the operational frontline, to managers.

Applicants must have a relevant Level 7 qualification (postgraduate) or equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience.

This post is classed as 'politically restricted' under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended). From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2022 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
